As someone who started gaming at a young age, I can understand how addictive kids can get to video games. Some titles are so addictive that kids can spend hours playing them. And parents can struggle to control the situation. That’s why Epic Games is introducing two new parental controls in Fortnite.
Epic Games Introduces Fortnite Time Limits for Kids
As announced in a post on the Epic Games Newsroom, Epic Games is introducing Time Limit Control and Time Reports in Fortnite. Both are designed to help parents control when and how long their kids play Fortnite.
Time Limit Control means parents can set a time frame within which their kids can play Fortnite, and then set limits on how much they can play within that time frame. For example, they could be allowed to play for an hour between 3pm and 7pm every day.
The child playing Fortnite will know that a time limit has been set, and they will see a warning when they have 30 minutes left. If parents enable that setting, they will also be able to request more play time via email.
The second element of this is time reports. These do exactly what the name suggests; allow a parent or guardian to see a report of how long their child played Fortnite on a given day. They can also see how much extra time they have given the child.
Time limit controls and time reports apply to both Fortnite and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). It also works across multiple devices, preventing children from logging in to another device to continue playing after their time is up. That is as long as the child is using the same account on those multiple devices.
Your kid won’t like seeing their fun of Fortnite cut short
These new parental controls will be a welcome addition for parents everywhere who are concerned about how much time their young child is spending shooting other people in the face in an attempt to be the last person standing at the end of the game. Kids, however, won’t like seeing their fun cut short.
So, by all means, use the Fortnite time limits, and give your child extra time if they behave well. Just be prepared for the inevitable arguments, slamming of the door, and screams of “I hate you!”
